ACO HELPS SAVE KITTENS' LIVES

It's not often that those of us in rescue see headlines like the one above. But, recently, those of us in Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue, got to experience this firsthand at our Transylvania Shelter in Brevard, NC.  A mother cat, who was feral, was brought to the shelter. Shortly after arriving, she gave birth to three kittens, David, one of the Animal Control Officers at the shelter, actually cut the umbilical cord shortly after the birth. Charlie's Angels then got a call notifying us that the mom and kittens were at the shelter. Brother Wolf, a local rescue, stepped up to take the mom and kittens and arrangements were made to transport them to the rescue. Unfortunately, before that could happen, one of the kittens died. The morning that the volunteers arrived at the shelter to pick up the mom and the other two kittens this is what they found......DAVID WAS HOLDING THE TWO KITTENS INSIDE HIS SHIRT TO KEEP THEM WARM!!!  Now, again, this isn't what most rescue groups see when going to their local shelter to rescue animals! We cautioned David that this was certainly going to ruin his macho image! :)  But, David didn't care; his focus was on saving these two tiny lives that were hanging in the balance. He had been holding them for some time by the time the volunteers arrived. So, as quickly as possible, the two babies and their mom were rushed to a volunteer for Brother Wolf  in Black Mountain. The kittens were bottle fed and later were transferred to another nursing mom. Unfortunately, the little black and white kitten did not make it but the tabby is coming along just fine. The mom will be spayed and released.

We want to thank David for his kindness and willingness to help this mom and babies. Many times, shelter employees get a terrible rap. We appreciate Chuck, Eric, and David and their willingness to work with us in saving the lives of Transylvania animals that are brought to our shelter. Thank you all so much!
